Synopsis

At the height of the Roman Empire, a wealthy merchant stages a grand garland ceremony to find husbands for his two daughters. The event is supposed to settle both matches with honor, but Chloe has other plans, snatching the groom intended for her sister Julia in front of everyone. Humiliated and cornered, Julia does something nobody at the ceremony expects: she places her garland on a beggar. What begins as an act of defiance, half joke and half wound, turns out to be the most consequential choice of her life, because the man in rags is no beggar at all. He is the Emperor, moving through his empire in disguise. While Chloe celebrates the husband she stole, Julia walks into a marriage that slowly reveals itself to be the opposite of a punishment, and the sister who took everything watches her own victory rot as the truth about Julia's husband climbs toward the light.
