Synopsis

Annie Smith is the most overqualified junior translator in her trading company, and nobody there has any idea. Fluent in eight languages, she has spent three years doing entry-level work for 24,000 dollars a year, deliberately burying her abilities. The silence is not modesty. When her parents died, every language she knew became tangled with memories she could not carry, so she sealed them all away and chose a life where no one would look at her twice. The plan holds until a critical international negotiation, when her team leader's blunder puts the entire project on the edge of collapse. Cornered, Annie opens her mouth in German and saves everything. The room never sees her the same way again. The exposure brings enemies who want her pushed back down and doors that were never open before, while an antique her father left behind, along with a letter in his handwriting, pulls her toward the past she spent three years refusing to face. Between the office battles and the grief, she also finds love.
